Spelling is probably my least favourite thing to teach at primary, there's not a great deal to it other than straight memorisation and lots of it is developed through reading and understanding etymology. It is important though (or maybe it's not, that's a whole other argument) and these are some simple activities and ideas that you could do at home. 


The spelling lists show you the words that children are supposed to know for each year, definitely go back and test them on Y3 and 4 ones because it isn't often children secure all of these by Year 5, when the spellings get pretty hard and the kids are expected to know all the new ones as well as the old ones they didn't quite master in Y3 and 4.
