WELCOME TO YEAR 3!
Summer Term 2
During this half term, our topic is FLOW. The children will be learning all about the fascinating world of rivers and their importance all around the world. Children will be developing their geographical skills and knowledge and will even have the opportunity to visit a river and discover all of its features.
In English, our core story will be Oliver and the Seawigs by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre. This wonderfully funny tale tells the story of a young boy, Oliver who goes on a trip across the sea to find his parents. Along the way, he discovers mermaids, seawigs, albatrosses and all kinds of bother! We will use the story to further develop our writing skills. There will be lots of opportunities to write at length, and we will be writing letters, diaries, instructions and descriptions.
In Guided Reading we will be focussing on non-fiction texts and will be learning about different rivers all around the world. We will also look at some river poetry. Please remember to bring in your Reading Record on a weekly basis for it to be checked and signed.
In Maths we will be moving on to shape, space and measure. We will also revise addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, and do lots of problem solving using bar models.
Please encourage your child to continue practising TT Rockstars online. Times Tables will be tested three times a week.
Our Science topic is all about plants. Children will be linking their science to art this half term and be completing a wonderful, 3D collage.
In PE we will be preparing for sports day. We will be running, hurling, jumping and throwing! Please ensure your child has a full PE kit including pumps in school. PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to speak with us. Watch this space for photos of our fantastic learning!
